Town twinning

Town twinning is not a set phrase in Ferlach, quite the opposite. Ferlach has a long-standing friendship with two communities, which is strengthened by joint events and mutual visits.

Tržič

In 1992 the partnership document was signed with/by the municipality of Tržič in Slovenia. One result of this partnership is the traditional “EU-Loibl-Kirchtag” (“church day”) on the old Loibl pass, a festival that always takes place at the end of August under the motto “Dance without borders”. For centuries, the old Loibl pass has been one of the most important crossings over the Karawanken mountains. Now a Carinthian-Slovenian Kirchtag is celebrated there once a year under the sign of cross-border togetherness.

Sponheim

Centuries ago (since 1142), when the Cistercians from Lorraine (brought to Viktring by the Sponheimers) reclaimed the Rosen valley, the milestone for a partnership was already laid. The partnership should promote the youth, sports, old customs, culture and club activities in both communities. The partnership document was officially signed with the municipality of Sponheim in Rheineland-Pfalz (Germany) in 1992. The Sponheimer Platz in front of the Ferlach Castle commemorates this partnership. Since then, there have been numerous reciprocal visits between the partner communities.
